Johnson Controls focused on innovation, sustainability and energy efficiency in designing their newly released Choice 15-27.5 Rooftop Unit.

As we’ve menitoned in previous articles, the United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED), a division of the Department of Energy, is the gold standard rating system for green-building and energy efficiency. The Choice 15-27.5 rooftop unit purportedly exceeds the Department of Energy’s 2018 guidelines by more than 25 percent, and even exceeds future (2023) standards by almost 10 percent.

“As commercial energy standards increase over time it is critical to develop products that are optimized to address them,” said Eric Newberg, director of commercial product management & commercial ducted systems, according to the press release.

Additonally, Johnson Controls kept ease of transition in mind when creating this latest model, as they claim it fits approximately 70 percent of the competitive installed base. It is also “up to 33 percent lighter than existing Johnson Controls models, and up to 22 percent lighter than competing products.”
